Hecate Storybook

Miss Hecate storybook, Illustrated by Dan Hook , written by Milton Crane

This was among the first items regarding Hecate to be submitted to the Pendog Creative library, it was submitted to us in an incomplete form with many missing pages. There is also a lot left unknown about the nature of this book such as what company it was made for or if it was even official. However what we can see here is another instance of Hecate in her 50s incarnation, depicted as someone who went from fame to rags and down on her luck.

From here we can speculate on Hecate's nature as a fictional character! Was she an angel that got kicked out from heaven and onto the streets? Maybe! It wouldn’t be that hard to believe but whether this is her typical depiction or a story specific instance is unknown.

The artist and writer behind this work were  hard to research, Milton Crane only wrote one other book prior,  “Dog songs for good children” before seemingly quitting writing all together. His partner Dan Hook was even harder to find and we have no prior or future works from him available. Which is to say he might have been an illustrator that dipped his toes into commercial work before leaving it behind all together, still it’s sad that his body of work remains invisible to us in the modern day, if his book illustrations are any indication it would have been wonderful to see.
