In 1948 Stencil Line industries - owner of Liquid Laff studios - was brought before the Supreme Court regarding its usage of the studio system to snuff out competition and prioritize special treatment of its own pictures and products. Stencil Line had been buying up several theaters and disallowing them from showing films made by competitor Havens Studio. In a stunning decision by the Supreme Court, the verdict was in favor of Stencil Lines practices. This ruling would not be overturned until 2020 - a decision that is still affecting the landscape of the entertainment industry as companies go through the process of splitting off and restructuring to comply with court orders.
