Dorothy Do Concept Painting

Dorothy Do concept paintings, The Dorothy Do Movie, Helena Venmer

These paintings were created for the Dorothy Do Movie, the artists involved wanted to adapt Dorothy for the modern age and create an exciting new era for the show. It’s creation was very much in anticipation for an eventual animated tv show, and although it was a much different design compared to Dorothy’s puppet counterpart, Barbara Massey was confirmed to have approved the design before finalization.

It should be noted that the plans for an animated Dorothy Do television show were done under the nose of Barbara Massey and a case of the studio assuming it was an inevitable next step for the franchise. However the conclusion of the Dorothy Do show in the years that followed would put a shutter on these plans. Barbara Massey had an unusually large amount of control over her creative property and when she said it was over it was a contested but unconquerable decision.
