Dorothy Do Ink Drawing

Black and white illustration of Dorothy Do, a sailor puppet, standing on a pier while giving a salute.

Illustration of Dorothy Do by Barbara Massey

A letter to a friend from Barbara Massey included this illustration of Dorothy Do. It’s one of the many drawings that she would include in her letters. This one in particular was drawn shortly after the premier of the Dorothy Do Puppet Show. Although a writer above all other things Barbara was enthusiastic to try out other art forms as evidenced by her later puppeteering work. She would doodle her characters often however never for mass produced work. For this reason they are very hard to find.
