Maisy the Mutt Zoetrope

Maisy the Mutt Zoetrope, creator unknown, restored by Pendog Creative Library

This artifact was found in a deteriorated condition and as such we did our best to create an accurate restorated copy. Featuring a drawn sequence of Maisy the Mutt waving at the operator, this object is what is known as a Zoetrope. Zoetropes are one of the oldest forms of animation. As demonstrated below it works by drawing a sequence of illustrations around the disk and then spinning it.

A mimeograph showing an animation of Maisy the Mutt, a rubberhose cartoon dog wearing a hat, shirt and skirt, as she bobs up and down and waves at the viewer.
