Dorothy Fanclub Poster

Soon after season 3 of Dorothy Do And The Deep Blue aired, the official Dorothy Do fanclub was established. Members would pay a monthly fee to receive newsletters and, on occasion, be the first to receive new merchandise not yet sold in stores. The club ran until the end of the show, with the final newsletter wishing the members farewell and good luck on their own journeys through the sea of life.

After the official club disbanded, many others popped up in its place. They were mostly local communities, made by fans for fans, creating zines and stories of their own to fill the Dorothy-shaped hole in their hearts. These types of clubs slowly faded away after the rise of the internet, instead turning into countless blogs and forums. However, one notable fanclub is still running strong!

Established just after the show’s end, this club has been incredibly dedicated to Dorothy Do for more than 30 years! Much like the official club, they send out physical newsletters several times a year, occasionally sending fan-made merchandise such as posters, zines, and badges. This fanclub is, in some ways, the only still-living part of Dorothy’s legacy since the show ended, and is notoriously difficult to join.

Dorothy Do Fanclub Poster
Poster for Dorothy Do and The Deep Blue, showing the titular Dorothy Do, a sailor puppet, holding up a bottle with a golden boat riding a wave as he looks at it in awe. He has water up to his chest, as he sits inside a dark place and behind him is a large circular window, with a large octopus staring ominously at him.

This poster is one of the aforementioned goodies from around the early 2000’s. The anonymous artist has combined Dorothy’s animated and puppet designs into one, a delightful mix of new and old! The scene is based on an episode from season four, in which Dorothy must rescue a ship and its crew who’ve been trapped in a bottle by a kraken. How thrilling!
