Early Beetrice Concept Art

Drawings of Beetrice, in a simplified style, doing things like holding a bowl, sleeping on a pillow, stretching, and so on. Various hair styles are presented as well as clothing options.

These various concept drawings of Beetrice were created at least a year after her inception and continued to be created, and discarded, right up until her visual overhaul by Sixer Studios in 1958. As mentioned in her character article, Beetrice as a character struggled for a long time to form a coherent visual identity and much of her early work depicted her in vastly different ways. This was both due to a lack of cohesion in her character design as well as very loose standards on the part of Bartlebee Brands. It is interesting to consider how many redesigns and styles Beetrice has been depicted through, aside from Maisy the Mutt and Dorothy Do, she has gone through the most changes of any character on the site, and you can really see the moment everything clicked when the company finally put their foot down and set stricter standards for artistic depictions of her.
