As a major candy producer worldwide Bartlebee Brands was heavily involved in Halloween marketing during its lifespan. The company would regularly host Halloween kickoff events and on the beginning of every October they would sponsor the “Candy Cove Parade” in which they handed out candy and treats to eager crowds. During the later years of their life Bartlebee Brands would join the movement concentrated around Halloween Safety. Notably this was in response to controversy, the previous Halloween the company had released a candy batch bag created for households to hand out to trick or treaters.

Although sales surged for the product its downfall was the result of mislabeling. The bag was marked as 100% peanut free however among the candies included was the Beetrice Butterbar which did in fact contain peanuts. Several children, parents, and other individuals were hospitalized due to this error with massive recalls to follow. Ultimately this would be a brief bump in the company’s progress, the Supreme Court ruled in the ensuing hearings that Bartlebee was not in violation of the law for false advertising.

Yes, when you find chicken bones in your boneless chicken or so on you can thank Bartlebee Brands!
