The land of shapes and fractals, Jayne Prell

The land of shapes and fractals, Jayne Prell, 2024

One of the later works by Jayne Prell featuring her stand in character Slishy Slasher. In this piece “The land of shapes and fractals” her character is described as falling out of the world after becoming so weighed down by its grievances and her worsening as an individual. Perhaps meant to reflect how trapped the artist felt at the time and drawn as an escape valve into another world. Regardless, this piece reflects more of the artist's talent for drawing multitudes of repeated objects, hands, and composition of shapes. One big question we will always have is where Jayne Prell went? She was notorious for living most of her life online and claimed to have nobody for her outside the screen. In the worst case scenario, similar to her character in this illustration, she might have just fallen through the cracks…another victim of abuse and neglect. Or maybe she found something that gave her life meaning outside the internet? I like to think that’s the case.
