Unnamed Work, Milford Sykes

A painting of two women twirling around each other in a sea of red arms, they both wear red dresses, have squinted eyes and generally small facial features. They have white fluffy hair and horns ringed with yellow halos.

The paintings of Milford Sykes were defined by strong usage of shapes, bodies which faded out into hazy brush strokes, and characters with pinched narrowed eyes.

Milford Sykes began drawing in his thirties and quickly found himself under the employ of various companies and independent commissioners.

He stated about his own work that he rejected concrete settings and place, preferring to focus on characters, shapes, and movement which often led to paintings in which the characters were placed in an unidentifiable space.

Found amongst his unpublished works upon his death, this piece appears to depict Miss Hecate. It is unknown for whom this piece was commissioned or why it was never released upon completion.
